Find the River : Torrent Walk, Dollgellau

"There's lots of exploring to be done around here.  Go through the gate that nobody uses and see if you can find your way to the river".   That's what the owner of our holiday cottage said to Miss 7 as we arrived at Dollgeathau October half term.  So we did.  Well, first of all I did.  Having been up since the wee small hours with an inexplicably restless 7 month old, I took advantage of the solitude of early morning and snuck out on my adventures.  The sun was low in the sky and the air was fresh.  Passing through the gate I  followed the winding unkempt path through the forest, happening upon random blocks of limestone, fungi and long abandoned crumbling outbuildings along the way.  Then there was the river in all its glory.  Alongside it there seemed to be a scene from Arthurian legend.  Wood carvings, fallen branches and evidence of recent bonfires.  The best adventure playground I have ever seen.  I was happy to lose myself in that scene and enjoy nothing but the sound of the flowing waters.  More happy times were had at that location before the week was out.  This part of Wales was new to me and had acres and acres of forest that I just ached to explore.  I can't wait to return for more adventures.
